Asia Pacific becomes largest smartphone market, India registers triple digit growth

Android increases market share to 35pc

Keeping the other operating systems fighting for second spot, Android increased the leadership with 35% of total smartphone OS market share in Q1, 2011. On the other hand, Asia Pacific became the largest smartphone market region thanks to the triple digit growth in India, China and South Korea.

At a platform level, Android’s continued dominance was boosted by good performances by a number of key vendors. ‘HTC, Samsung, LG, Motorola and Sony Ericsson drove Android shipments in the first quarter, with each vendor shipping well over 3 million devices’
