HTC, Google go patent shopping

HTC has paid 75 million dollars to acquire a big wireless patent portfolio, on the other hand Google made 900 million dollars bid for the patent portfolio of Nortel Networks.

Google’ move is being seen to avoid the potential lawsuits aimed at its Chrome browser and Android, while HTC said that the patent acquisition was part of its efforts ‘to develop the wireless telecommunication technology in HTC.’

HTC has bought 82 patents and 14 patent applications from US based ADC Telecommunications.
