First Russia made smartphone with GLONASS to launch on March 1

Well, Russians are finally ready with first home-made smartphone, and it runs Android. Apart from being the first smartphone by Russians, it is also the first smartphone to integrate GLONASS/GPS chip. On paper, this double navigation system is 93 per cent accurate, as opposed to GPS’s 64 per cent.

The smartphone is being developed in collaboration with Qualcomm and ZTE by AFK Sistema’s Sitronics branch. It will be available on March 1 with 500,000 units on sale, but the mass production will start in the second half of 2011.

It will be sold for a price of 10,990 Roubles ($360).
