A few days later than we were expecting, Samsung has announced the launch of its Galaxy S6 Active smartphone. The phone is being released exclusively in partnership with telecom operator AT&T in the United States. There is no word on the global launch at this point.
Although quite a few of Galaxy S6 Active specifications are similar to the regular Galaxy S6, the former still stands out, thanks to its rugged design (shock-proof), bigger battery and water/ dust resistance. These features make sure that the phone is ready for outdoor activities and you don’t have to worry about it getting wet or falling down.
“As we’ve shown over the past three years as the exclusive provider of Samsung’s Galaxy S active family, we feel that our customers shouldn’t have to trade durability for best-in-class specs. The Galaxy S6 active is the best Galaxy S6 in the market. It combines all the premium features of the Galaxy S6, but also is durable enough to can handle wear and tear,” said Jeff Bradley, senior vice president, Device Marketing and Developer Services, AT&T Mobility.
The phone comes with a 5.1-inch Quad-HD Super AMOLED display, Samsung Exynos 7420 Octa-core 64-bit processor, 3500 mAh battery and Android 5.0.2 Lollipop with Touchwiz. The phone also packs 16MP primary camera, 5MP secondary shooter, 4G LTE support, 3GB of RAM and 32GB of on-board storage.
Samsung has also included a dedicated Activity Zone button on the phone, which gives quick access to compass, flashlight, stop watch and more.
According to AT&T, Samsung Galaxy S6 Active will be available starting June 12. The phone comes in Camo White, Camo Blue, and Gray colours for $199 with the usual 2-year contract. You will also be able to purchase the phone with AT&T Next plan at for $23.17 with 30 device payments on Next SM 243, $28.96 per month at 24 payments on Next 18, or $34.75 per month at 20 payments on Next 12.
