Periscope launches Android app in Google Play

After Meerkat, Twitter-owned live-streaming app Periscope has launched its official Android version in Google Play. The app can be grabbed for free from here.

“When we started Periscope, we wanted to build the closest thing to teleportation — by providing users with the best way to start or watch a live video broadcast. As a small startup, our initial launch was limited to just iOS, but we’ve been working really hard to craft an experience that feels special on Android, yet still unmistakably Periscope,” wrote Periscope team in a blog post.

The release of Periscope Android version comes three months after it was introduced on iOS. The Android version of the app not only matches the features available on iOS, but has also includes a few that are unique to the platform.

  • Live-stream video to your Twitter followers
  • Watch/ Re-watch live-streams of other Twitter users
  • Get notified when someone you follow on Twitter broadcasts for the first time (Android exclusive)

  • Tablet support
