Anonymous sharing app Secret is shutting down

Anonymous sharing app Secret will soon be dead. The company CEO David Byttow on Wednesday announced the news in Medium post. At the time of writing this report, the Android version of the app had already been removed from Google Play.

“This has been the hardest decision of my life and one that saddens me deeply. Unfortunately, Secret does not represent the vision I had when starting the company, so I believe it’s the right decision for myself, our investors and our team,” wrote Byttow.

Secret was originally introduced on iOS in February 2014 and reached Android in May. According to Byttow, the app was used by over 15 million people around the world. Secret had raised as much as $35 million from various investors including Google Ventures and Kleiner Perkins. The company will be returning what has left of this money to the investors.

While the app was a hot commodity in the initial days, it could not keep the momentum. Secret attempted to revive its fortunes in a revamp late last year, but that too seem to have failed.
