Malaysia becomes the first market to see OnePlus One in stores

Also, first country where OnePlus has entered in a carrier-partnership

Chinese smartphone start-up OnePlus, which has stuck to selling smartphones online for its entire first year of existence, is changing the strategy as it enters its second year and the Malaysian market.

The company revealed in a blog post on Tuesday that its One smartphone reaches Malaysia on Wednesday and to make that possible it has partnered with local telecom operator Maxis, in turn marking two of its firsts.

Maxis tie-up is not only the first carrier partnership for the company, but it is also the first time its smartphones will be available via brick and mortar stores. According to the company, OnePlus will be available via all Maxis stores in the country beginning April 22. The physical store sales will be joined by the online sales, which have already commenced via Maxis website.

“As we grow, it is increasingly important to work with the right partners who will provide the best experience for our users. Going offline is a first for us and we’re very happy to have found a solid partner in Maxis with whom we can take our first steps”, said Carl Pei, co-founder of OnePlus, in a press statement.

According to OnePlus, the 64GB Sandstone Black OnePlus One will be available with the MaxisONE Plan at just RM859 or unlocked and off contract for just RM1199. The company isn’t offering the 16GB version at this point in the country.
