US Android news round-up: Amazon Prime music stations, Sprint Galaxy Note 3 update & more

Red Samsung Galaxy Note 3Software updates continue to dominate Android news reports from the United States. In addition to the release of Android 5.1 roll-out for Nexus 7 (2012) 3G and Sony Z Ultra GPe, two Samsung devices and one HTC phone are getting software updates in the US.

Sprint rolls out Android 5.0 for Galaxy Note 3 and Note edge

US telecom operator Sprint has released the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for Galaxy Note 3 and Note edge smartphones. The update is now rolling out over-the-air and will reach your phones in the coming days.

According to Sprint, the Note 3 update mainly includes Lollipop-specific changes, but Note edge update also packs Wi-Fi calling enhancements and Factory Reset protection.

HTC One M9 to get first software update in US beginning today

HTC has told Phandroid that it is ready to push the first software update for One M9 units in the United States beginning April 10. The update will first roll-out to Sprint units, followed by AT&T and T-Mobile versions of the One M9. The Verizon units will have the update pre-installed, so they don’t have to worry about the roll-out.

HTC has noted that the update, which is over 80MB in size, brings camera performance enhancements.

Amazon Music Android app update brings Prime Music Stations

Amazon has released an updated version of its Music app in Google Play, which brings Prime music stations, allowing the Prime members to play ad-free unlimited internet radio.

Here are the other changes in the update:

  • A re-imagined library search that makes finding your favorite music easy. Search is now just one tap away from anywhere in the app
  • Personalized Prime Playlist recommendations
  • Optimized display on large screens
  • Bug fixes and performance improvements

In more Amazon news, Amazon has released an Amazon Instant Video app for Android tablets. The app can be downloaded from Amazon Appstore for free.
