Samsung gets ready for Galaxy S6 global roll-out; will launch a new smartwatch soon

As the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge smartphones go on sale beginning Friday, April 10 in twenty major markets across the globe, Samsung is hoping for a turnaround in its fortunes. The company’s last flagship smartphone Galaxy S5 did not sell well, but Samsung is expecting record Galaxy S6 shipments. However, the company revealed that it will struggle in meeting the demand for Galaxy S6 edge, the Galaxy S6 cousin, which sports a dual-edge curved display, on account of production constraints.

The company stated at a press event in Seoul on Thursday that it believes that the Galaxy S6 will sell more than the S6 edge. Analysts say Samsung could ship as many as 50 million Galaxy S6 units this year.

Samsung’s J.K. Shin revealed at the Seoul event that the company is working on a number of new wearable devices and a Gear-branded smartwatch will be launched soon. Shin did not give out any details about the device, but a recent report from SamMobile noted that the company will release a smartwatch named “Gear A.” Samsung Gear A will reportedly be the first smartwatch with a circular display from the company. The smartwatch will be launched in two versions, one with normal Bluetooth support (SM-R720) and other with 3G and voice-calling (SM-R730).

No other details are known at this point.
