Asus announces Zenfone 2 smartphone

Asus Zenfone 2Asus on Monday introduced the new Zenfone 2 smartphone at its CES press event in Las Vegas. It will be succeeding the company’s much popular and original Zenfone-series. Asus is releasing the Zenfone 2 in only one screen size at this point, but the company will be adding more display-sizes in the coming months.

“The passion behind the design of ZenFone 2 is our never-ending desire to empower luxury for everyone. We have drawn on our considerable engineering expertise and experience with our popular ZenFone to create a smartphone that embodies this ambition. That device is the incredible new ZenFone 2 — luxury that everyone can enjoy,” said ASUS Chairman Jonney Shih.

The base model will come with 1.8GHz Intel Atom Z3560 quad-core 64-bit processor, 1280x720p display, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB of internal storage. On the other hand, the flagship variant will feature 2.3GHz Intel Atom Z3580 quad-core 64-bit processor, 1920x1080p display, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of internal storage. Other specifications of the smartphone include 5.5-inch full HD IPS display, 13MP rear camera, 5MP front shooter, 3000 mAh battery, dual-SIM support, microSD card slot and 4G LTE connectivity.Updated Asus Zen UIThe Asus Zenfone 2 runs on Android 5.0 with updated Zen UI. The new version of Zen UI brings quite a few improvements and new features like themes, security enhancements, more customisation options, Zenmotion gestures, Snapview, and Kids mode.

Pricing & Availability

According to Asus, Zenfone 2 smartphone will be priced starting $199 and will go on sale in March this year. The phone will be available in five colour options – Osmium Black, Sheer Gold, Glacier Gray, Glamor Red and Ceramic White.

  1. This is exactly the way it should be IMO. Asus gets it while other OEMs don’t. Screen sizes are at a huge premium and OEMs will do well to release phones at different price points with the same screen size (diff resolution) with varying specs, rather than trying to artificially differentiate between products with smaller screen sizes.

Well done Asus, I think 2GB RAM and 16GB storage should be the bare minimum for 10K+ products for 2015, but I somehow doubt as to whether that’s gonna happen.

    Psst … I wouldn’t mind seeing a 5.5″ HD 720p ZF powered by the Z3460/80 with 1GB/16GB for <$150 LOL. 😛
