Acer announces 15.6-inch Chromebook, to be priced starting $250

Acer Chromebook 15Acer on Saturday became the first Chrome OS partner to introduce a 15.6-inch Chromebook. Dubbed as Acer Chromebook 15, the new device will be showcased at the Pepcom’s Digital Experience Event next week in Las Vegas.

“Acer has been a leader in the Chromebook market, from providing the latest in technology and trailblazing battery life to designing new form factors. We’re driving the category forward again with the world’s first 15.6-inch display Chromebook, the Acer Chromebook 15,” said Jerry Kao, president of Acer Notebook Business Group.

As per a press release issued by the company, Chromebook 15 will be released in 16GB or 32GB SSD options along with either 2GB or 4GB of RAM. The pricing will start $249.99 in the United States. There is no word on the price-tags in other markets at this point.

Acer Chromebook 15 will be available with either Intel’s fifth-gen Core i3 or fifth-gen Celeron processors. Other specifications of the device include 1920x1080p/ 1366x768p display resolution, full-sized speakers, HD webcam, Wi-Fi ac, Bluetooth 4.0, USB 2.0 port, USB 3.0 port, HDMI port, and SD card slot.

The Chromebook has also been reinforced to handle more bumps and drops; the case can withstand up to 60kg of force, while the corners can tolerate up to 45cm drops without damage.

There is no word on the India launch right now.

Acer Chromebook 13 line-up gets Touch models

Acer has also revealed that it is adding touchscreen models to its Chromebook 13 line-up. The Chromebook 13 features Tegra K1 processor and 13.3-inch display. According to Acer, Chromebook 13 touchscreen models will be available this month starting at $329.99 in the U.S. and €329 in EMEA.
