Samsung Gear S smartwatch pre-bookings open in India

Over a fortnight after the supposed release date of the new Gear S smartwatch, Samsung has begun pre-bookings for the device on its official e-store. The interested consumers can now book a Gear S unit after paying INR 1,000, which will be adjusted from the final price of the smartwatch once it is available.

To remind you, Samsung Gear S has been priced at INR 28,900, but the exact availability details are unclear.

Originally introduced in September, Gear S sports a 2-inch curved Super AMOLED display and is powered by dual-core processor. The USP of the smartwatch is the built-in 3G support, which allows it to operate independently of the smartphones, something which is not common with smartwatches.

Among other specifications, the Gear S packs 300 mAh battery, water/ dust resistance, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of on-board storage and heart-rate sensor.

The smartwatch can track fitness related activity and health information, receive or make calls, show notifications from paired smartphone, offer directions using HERE maps, work as an internet browser and do a lot more.

Samsung Gear S will be released in White and Black colour options in the country.
