Asus ZenWatch to get a price-tag below $199: CEO

Asus ZenWatchAsus’ upcoming Android Wear-powered ZenWatch will be sold for a price-tag below $199, revealed the company CEO Jerry Shen at a press meet in Taiwan. Shen also stated at the briefing that the smartwatch will initially support voice-recognition in English but the company is working to support Chinese language as well.

The new pricing information is in contrast with what TechCrunch had earlier reported. The tech blog had noted citing an unnamed source that Asus smartwatch will be priced between $99 and $149, which seems unlikely now.

In addition, Jerry Shen has announced that ZenWatch will only be released in one display size and it will be available starting October, which is the same time LG’s new G Watch R and Samsung’s Gear S are going on sale. Motorola’s Moto 360 should become available a little earlier but still Q4 will have a lot of smartwatch options to choose from.

Among other details, Asus CEO shared that ZenWatch can be used standalone or with Android smartphones, however the smartwatch will provide more functions when paired with a smartphone.
