Spice has revealed that it will be launching its first Android One smartphone before Diwali in the Indian market.  The company also stated that it will be releasing the $25 Firefox OS smartphone as well around the same time.

“We will have the handsets in before Diwali. These phones are designed for driving connectivity at affordable prices. We were chosen for our innovation, we are among the chosen few to work with these global giants to bring these devices to India,” Spice Retail CEO Devices T M Ramakrishnan told PTI on the sidelines of the Stellar 526 and 520 launch in New Delhi.

The specifications of both smartphones are unclear at this moment but the Android One device is expected to carry a dual-core MediaTek processor, dual-SIM support, WVGA display and FM Radio.

To remind you, Spice is one of the three confirmed Android One partners, others are Micromax and Karbonn. As per reports, Celkon has also partnered with Google for Android One but we are yet to see an official announcement. In addition, Intex is reportedly in talks with the search giant to join the initiative, which will help the Android manufacturers in building affordable Android smartphones with stock Android.

According to Google, it will be offering the companies with a turnkey solution to build these smartphones therefore eliminating the need of R&D at their end. The company is also said to be spending over INR 100 crores to market the Android One devices in India, while some reports have put the advertising spend at INR 6000 crores but that seems unlikely.
