Motorola has reportedly sold 1 million smartphones in the Indian market since it re-entered the country in February this year. The company currently retails three phones – Moto E, Moto G and Moto X – all of which are sold exclusively via Flipkart.com.

With strong sales for the Moto G and Moto E smartphone, it is no wonder that Motorola has been able to achieve this milestone with five months. As per our own calculation, over 285,000 units of Moto E and over 180,000 units of Moto G were sold in the country within 30 days of their launch. The phones have been sold a lot more since.

Flipkart believes that these sales numbers will push the company (at least for now) in the top five smartphone vendors in the country.

“We believe these sales figures should put Motorola among the top five mobile brands in the country,” Sachin Bansal, founder and CEO of Flipkart told TOI.

The second quarter numbers will be shared by the research firms in late-August or early-September, which should reveal a clearer picture.

  1. .. and this is only through one online retailer. Happy with my Moto X – its a solid device considering many aspects. I see Motorola selling more than 3-4 million units easily should Lenovo decide to open its retail stores once the take-over is complete. Motorola can once again regain top slot in India within a year and a half judging by the frugal yet well thought out superb products lined up.

    • atleast make it available offline then it would be ~2 million easily. I see many people in forum asking for alternative to moto since flipkart dont ship to their place

  2. Opening retail stores can definitely help gain some more market share but setting up brick and mortar shops add to a lot of overheads logistics costs. This approach is better from Motorola. It will be interesting to see hot Xiaomi will do in India. They too are tying up with Flipkart for the Mi3 launch
