KitKat overtakes Gingerbread to become second biggest Android version

Advertisements

The latest Android platform distribution numbers are here and as expected KitKat has continued the upward trend. This Android version is now present on 17.9 percent of the total active Android devices and has overtaken Gingerbread to become the second biggest Android version.

Jelly Bean still remains at the helm with 56.5 percent device share but is down 1.9 percent since last month. Among other Android versions, Ice Cream Sandwich is loaded on 11.4 percent devices and Gingerbread is on 13.5 percent devices.

With Android L still a few months away, KitKat has time to close the gap with Jelly Bean, which is showing no signs of losing that top spot.

Here is quick look at the current standing of all Android versions:

  • Froyo: 0.7pc
  • Gingerbread: 13.5pc
  • Ice Cream Sandwich: 11.4pc
  • Jelly Bean: 56.5pc
  • KitKat: 17.9pc
