Barra stated at an International Cellular Show event in Jakarta that Xiaomi devices are undergoing necessary certification process right now, which is expected to be completed by August. The same was confirmed by Indonesian mobile phone distributor Erajaya, which is expected to be one of the retailers to carry Xiaomi products.
Like other Asian markets, where Xiaomi operates right now, Indonesia will also get Xiaomi RedMi 1S, Mi3, and RedMi Note devices. We also expect the release of the recently-announced Mi Pad in the country.
Tech in Asia notes that unlike other countries, Xiaomi won’t be selling its products via its website in the country because of the involved legal procedures and will be partnering with select e-retailers to sell the products. Among other details, the Xiaomi products are expected to be slightly expensive in the country because of VAT and prepaid income tax.
To remind you, apart from Indonesia, Xiaomi is also working to bring its products to Thailand, Philippines, Vietnam and India. It currently operates in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore and Malaysia.
