The HTC Nexus tablet rumours are back and this time with specifications and an alleged image of the device. According to a report from Android Police, HTC is working with Google to launch an 8.9-inch tablet (codenamed Volantis) and not 8-inch as was reported earlier.
This is not the first time, we are hearing about an 8.9-inch Nexus tablet. A Digitimes report had previously talked about the production of a high-res 8.9-inch tablet by Google but the report did not mention the manufacturer, which as per the latest report seems to be HTC.
Android Police notes that HTC’s 8.9-inch Nexus tablet will come with a 2048x1440p display, NVIDIA Tegra K1 processor, 2GB of RAM, and 16/ 32GB of internal storage. The tablet will also come with 8MP rear camera with optical image stabilisation and 3MP front shooter.
In addition, the report states that the tablet will have aluminium zero-gap construction with tapered sides and front stereo-speakers, however the leaked image does not these features, which makes us believe that the image could just be a mock-up rather than a final design.
The tablet is reportedly set to be released in Q4 with Android 5.0.
There is still a possibility that we will see a second Nexus tablet (probably with 7-inch display), which can arrive at I/O later this month or couple of weeks after the event as the previous Digitimes report had claimed that Google has two tablets in works. We don’t have any information on the manufacturer of the other tablet but we hope to hear something soon.
