YouTube, Hangouts & Translate Android apps updated with new features

Google Translate, YouTube and Hangouts iconsGoogle has released updates for YouTube, Hangouts and Google Translate Android apps earlier today. Rolling out now, the updates brings new features and improvements to the applications.

Starting with Hangouts v2.1.223 update first, the application now allows users to block SMS messages from specific senders as well as set individual notification sounds on a per-hangout. These two are quite useful features and certainly be appreciated by the Android users.

Coming to YouTube v5.7 update, the app now includes the option, which lets users select video stream quality like 144p, 240p, 360p, and 720p. Earlier, users were only able to select between HD/ HQ or no-HD/ no-HQ.

Lastly, the Google Translate 3.0.6 (3.0.6 was quickly followed by 3.0.7, which is a big-fixing release) update includes improved offline language pack experience and phonetic input support for Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Marathi, Punjabi, Tamil, and Telugu. If you know the phonetic keyboard for any of the above languages, you can now type using them in Google Translate. (Update: Google’s Phonetic input support in Translate is like transliteration – typing a non-English language in latin script based on how it literally sounds.

All the updates are being released in stages, so they might take some time to appear on your Android device.
