Samsung has started rolling out the Tizen firmware update for its first and only smartwatch with Android – Galaxy Gear. The update is now available via Kies in select countries and will be reaching all markets over the coming weeks.
With this update Galaxy Gear joins Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo in the Tizen arena. According to SamMobile, the update improves the performance and battery life of the smartwatch and brings standalone music player, customizable shortcuts for tap input, voice commands in the camera and more. There are no major UI differences but more battery life is a big plus.
The software update wipes all data from the watch, so you should backup any and all data before the update. You will also have to re-pair the smartwatch with your Samsung smartphone or tablet. Among other changes, some of the applications might not work after the update as they were made for Android and in the absence of Tizen version, there is nothing one can do.
Update details:
- Model: SM-V700
- Version: Tizen 2.2.0
- PDA: V700XXUCNE9
