Gmail for Android crosses 1 billion installs: Google

Advertisements

Sundar Pichai, who is the SVP of Android, Chrome and Apps at Google, has announced that Gmail Android app has crossed 1 billion installs till date. The first indications about the same were recently spotted on Google Play, when Gmail moved to 1,000,000,000-5,000,000,000 installs bracket.

It is the first real Android app to achieve this milestone, which has largely been aided by the fact that Gmail comes pre-installed on all Android devices that ship with Play Store (or Google suite of Android apps) on-board. Apart from Gmail, only Google Play services has seen more than 1 billion installs but it is more of a framework than app.

We expect to see other key Google apps like Search, Maps, and YouTube etc. reach this number as well in the coming months.
