Samsung isn’t the only Android manufacturer dissatisfied with its month-old flagship smartphone, HTC is also reportedly planning to release an upgraded version of One (M8) this year to compete with Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S5 Prime and LG G3.
Codenamed M8 Prime, which was first outed by @evleaks recently, this upcoming HTC smartphone pack Quad-HD display of 5.5-inches, Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 quad-core processor, 5MP Ultrapixel camera, 3GB of RAM and 16GB of on-board storage. The phone reportedly will also include a 16MP depth sensor, up from 2MP front in One (M8).
The smartphone is expected to be released in September 2014 much later than LG G3, which will most probably be the first Quad-HD smartphone from a tier-1 manufacturer when announced on May 27.
While most of the leaked specifications seem plausible given the Q3 release, we believe there is an error in resolution of the depth sensor.
When launched HTC One M8 Prime will be joining the rumoured M8 Ace, which is the plastic version of One M8 and is expected to arrive in Q2, and HTC One Mini 2 smartphones. In addition to growing its mid-range and budget smartphone portfolio, HTC is also expanding the One line-up big time because if all of these smartphones arrive as rumoured, we will have at least four One-series smartphone by the end of this year.
