KitKat now on 8.5 percent of Android devices, other versions fall

Advertisements

As expected, Android 4.4.x KitKat has continued to increase its market share and is now present on 8.5 percent of the total active Android devices, revealed Google in the latest Android platform numbers.

The numbers also show the downfall of all other Android versions including Jelly Bean, which actually lost its market share for first time last month.  Froyo and Honeycomb seem to be in the last leg of their lifetime with Gingerbread, Ice Cream Sandwich, Jelly Bean and KitKat dominating the Android landscape. With more manufacturers releasing devices with Android 4.4.x or upgrading older versions, we expect to see the same trend continuing over the coming months.

Here is the change in Android version distribution since last month:

Android version April numbers May numbers
Froyo 1.1 1.0
Gingerbread 17.4 16.2
Honeycomb 0.1 0.1
Ice Cream Sandwich 14.3 13.4
Jelly Bean 61.4 60.8
KitKat 5.3 8.5
Data collected during a 7-day period ending on April 1, 2014. Data collected during a 7-day period ending on May 1, 2014.
