A report originating from China suggests that Xiaomi’s upcoming successor to Mi 3 smartphone will come with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 801 processor and 3GB of RAM. The phone, which is likely to be dubbed as Mi 3S, will keep the 5-inch full HD display and 13MP rear camera.

Among other improvements, Mi 3S will pack an 8MP front camera, and LTE support. The existing Mi 3 packs just 2MP front camera and there is no LTE support.

This particular release seems to be on the lines of Hongmi 1S, which was recently release as an upgrade to Hongmi with no price-change but slightly improved specifications.

The report also notes that Mi 3S might include an enhanced design with more metal but it will still sell for 1,999 yuan.  There is no word on the exact release date right now.

Xiaomi Mi 3S will first go on sale in China and we could expect release in other markets like Taiwan, Hong Kong and Singapore later this year.

In other Xiaomi news, the company has already sold 11 million units in the first three months of 2014. It hopes to sell 60 million smartphones by the end of this year.
