As a part of this agreement license, Microsoft and Dell will license each company’s applicable intellectual property related to Android and Chrome OS devices and Xbox gaming consoles. Dell will also be paying royalties for its products running the Android or Chrome OS platforms.
“Our agreement with Dell shows what can be accomplished when companies share intellectual property. We have been partnering with technology manufacturers and vendors for many years to craft licensing deals, instead of litigation strategies,” said Horacio Gutierrez, corporate vice president and deputy general counsel of the Innovation and Intellectual Property Group at Microsoft.
Like Dell, there are several other Android vendors, which are currently paying Microsoft royalties for their devices running on Android or Chrome OS. Some of these vendors are LG, ZTE, Samsung, Acer, ViewSonic, Hon Hai, Barnes & Noble, and HTC.
