Micromax has announced the launch of its new Canvas MAd smartphone, which rewards users to watch advertisements.

According to Micromax, A94 Canvas MAd comes with an application “MAd,” where consumers can view advertisements and get rewarded for it. There rewards points can be used to pay postpaid mobile bills or get prepaid balance credits. It will work across mobile operators, the company noted.

On the specifications front, the phone packs a 4.5-inch FWVGA display, 512MB of RAM, 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 5MP rear camera and 1800mAh battery. The phone also comes with 4GB of internal storage, 5MP rear front camera and Android 4.2.2.

“With the launch of Micromax MAd, we aim to create a powerful medium to interact, engage, entertain and connect with the consumers by lending them our ears to voice their areas of interest, preferences and incentivizing it for them through reward.  This service would provide a high engagement communication channel for the brands to break away from the clutter,” said Rahul Sharma, co-founder, Micromax.

Micromax Canvas MAd has been priced at INR 8,490 and is now available in the country.

I’m not even gonna comment about the whole Ad watching gimmick, even though that is the very USP of this WTF device!

WTF 1 – WTF am I supposed to do with a quad core CPU (presumably the MT 6589M) if it only comes with 512 MB RAM!

WTF 2 – WTF am I supposed to do with the “MAd app”, where you need to pay out of your nose for extremely high cost data to watch ads and get peanuts in monetary reimbursement in comparison! I feel bad for the suckers
who’d fall for it 🙁

WTF 3 – WTF am I supposed to do with Android 4.2 in 2014 when most phones are already getting their Kit Kat updates or launching with the promise of Kit Kat later on? Even 4-5 thousand Rupee phones will start launching with Kit Kat over the next few weeks and this an eight thousand Rupee device that will as usual never be updated for God’s sakes.

Channels with adds… watching cinema in theatres with adds… walls full of adds… buses with adds… now you can buy a mobile for 9000rs and then you watch……. ADDS. Exellent thought… keep it up… I never expect this from Mmx… many more apps are useful… but why ADDS…..
