Android will pass 1 billion active users in 2014: Gartner

Research firm Gartner is forecasting that Android will cross 1 billion active users milestone this year. As we know, Android has already overtaken the 1 billion activations number but the active users are still said to be less than 1 billion. It is predicting the final number to be 1.1 billion by the end of 2014, which is a 26 percent increase from 2013.

Gartner notes that it expects 75 per cent of 1 billion active users to be from the emerging markets where Android has come out as the force to reckon with thanks to the budget Android smartphones and tablets.

It is also predicting that Chrome OS will more than double its users this year to 4.7 million from 1.8 million in 2013. It further predicts Chrome OS to reach 8 million users in 2015.
