Motorola has announced that it is starting Android 4.4.2 update roll-out for Moto G smartphone ahead of schedule in the United States. The update was earlier supposed to come in early-2014. The update is now available for Moto G units bought from Amazon, and Motorola.com (both Global GSM and US GSM models). Other carrier versions of Moto G as well as other regions will soon get the update.

“Our KitKat family is expanding! When we launched Moto G last month, we committed to delivering Android, KitKat, to devices by early 2014. We are thrilled to start delivering on that promise early,” Motorola noted in a blog post.

Update change-log

  • KitKat goodies: Restyled status and navigation bars, a new full-screen mode, color emoji support, improved closed captioning support, stronger security, smarter power use, and more
  • Improved the phone app with the ability to look up contacts directly from the dial pad, see and tap frequent contacts, and search your corporate directory easily.
  • Enhanced the “touch to focus” option with a new circular, on screen control that can be dragged by your finger around the viewfinder to adjust a photo’s focus and exposure.
  • Added new photo editing options to the Gallery app including new filter effects, draw on your photos, advanced cropping, and adjustments to color, exposure, contrast and more.
  • Added support for printing photos, Google Docs, GMail messages, and other content via Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and hosted services like Google Cloud Print and HP ePrinters.
  • Incorporated a new version of Google Hangouts that supports integrated SMS/MMS messaging. Hangouts can be set as the default SMS app under Settings > Wireless > Default SMS app.
  • Added support for Square credit card reader.

As you can see, it is pretty much the same update, which has been rolled-out to Moto X smartphones.

  • Update details: The update is available over-the-air and you will automatically get the update notification.
  • Builds: 172.44.4.falcon_umts.Retail.en.US (Global GSM), 172.44.4.falcon_umts.AWSRetail.en.US (US GSM)

if 16GB costs 17k then i think its not worth buying…rather go for any other phone with SD-card support…like Xperia SP

They removed the upload to picasa feature and replaced with the upload to photos which requires google+ in this version. This may push me to a different photo sharing service and away from picasa.
