Google has revealed that it will be adding several more game categories in Google Play to better classify the ever-increasing numbers of Android games.  Developers can now add these extra categories in Google Play developer console, so that when these new categories go live in February 2014, their game listings are ready.

“In February 2014, Google Play game categories will be expanded to cover a greater variety of games when listed in the Google Play Store. The New Category you select today will become your game’s category in the Google Play Store when the new categories are live,” Google writes.

Here are the existing game categories in Google Play: Arcade & Action, Brain & Puzzle, Cards & Casino, Casual, Racing, Sports Games

Here are the new ones: Action, Adventure, Arcade, Role Playing, Simulation, Strategy, Puzzle, Casino, Casual, Board, Family, Trivia, Word, Racing, Sports

Google notes that those developers, who will not enter the new categories before Feb 2014, their listings will automatically get the first new category from their old-category group.
