Advertisements

Following SMS/ MMS integration in Hangouts, Samsung has now released an update for its messaging app ChatON, bringing SMS/ MMS integration. The functionality is currently only available in Germany and Brazil and there is no word on when the company plans to roll-out the same to other markets.

Here is the official change-log for ChatON v3.2.115 update

  • SMS/MMS function has been integrated with ChatON. The message and chat list are combined, and you can see your contacts on ChatON buddy list. (Germany and Brazil only)
  • The badge indicating the number of unread messages is added on ChatON icon.

According to The Next Web, Samsung has told the publication that new feature “offers the best performance” on Galaxy S III, S4, Note II, and Note 3 smartphones, but you can use it on any smartphone running Android 4.0 or higher.

Although we are yet to see any official announcement, the ChatON app, which comes pre-installed on all Samsung devices, might even replace the existing text messaging app in Android 4.4 running devices from the company as Google did in Nexus 5 by replacing stock messaging app with Hangouts.
