Samsung Galaxy Grand duos getting Android 4.2.2 update in India

Samsung has started rolling out Android 4.2.2 update for Galaxy Grand duos smartphone in the Indian market today. The update is now rolling out over-the-air as well as via Kies app.

There is no official change-log available at this point but the update is expected to include Android 4.2.2 changes like lock-screen widgets, quick-settings in notification shade, DayDream support and performance improvements.  Several goodies are expected on the Touchwiz side too.

You will be automatically notified once the update is available for your phone, however you can also check for the update manually by going to Settings << About Phone << Software update << Update. If you want to update your phone via Kies, the application can be downloaded from the Samsung support site.

In case, you have already updated your Galaxy Grand Duos I9082 to Android 4.2.2, do let us know about the experience in comments. Also, if you have spotted any other changes than the ones mentioned in the post, do share them too.

Hi Harshul – Go to ur settings – there is an option to move from Easy mode to standard mode. Standard mode gets the Mute back and thank god!! I need it for conference calls! Hope this helps!

yes, there is no mute mutton, con call option and headset option which used to come earlier….have u got any soution yet..plz help !!

I have got my 4.2.2 update today. Its 488 mb size along with another stability update if 7.92 mb. Some issue was there with kies-mine failed yesterday but OTA was fine today. I suggest trying manually now and then bcoz there is a cue in Samsung server I was trying since 3 days.
So far no issues and it appears a great performance enhancement.

Yes…updated it..n the user interface has just got better! N the ram does not fills up quickly like many are claiming! But I m nt happy with the battery backup contradicting to the claims of leaked version users.

Updated it. Works pretty much fine too. Just one issue I’m facing is to find the setting where i can disable the vibration while unlocking my screen through a pattern. It wasn’t there earlier, and somehow find it irritating now. Much appreciation for anybody who can find a way for the same.

Updated to 4.2.2 via wifi .. Nice to see the user interface looking lot better. Memory management looks better though will have to wait and see..

Hi guys!!! Yesterday I connected my galaxy grand to my laptop and tried to upgrade firmware. I got the message and followed the step. Suddenly after completing 100% the kies application closed and when I tried to open it again, it displays the same message “new firmware upgrade available for your phone”. Today I tried the same thing but again I am facing same issue. I also tried to update it through OTA, but it displays “Latest updates are already installed” and it is not working. Can anybody tell me why I am facing these issue??

Just Backup all ur contacts And restore the factory settings on the phone
Now Connect the phone to wifi and then u can get updated to 4.2.2
It worked for me

I have the same problem but it shows the latest version already intalled but my cell android version is 4.1.2

I got same problem. Please check that your internet is working. After that try to update. It work & my mobile get updated version.

Guys could see a great improvement in interface. 4gb of internal storage is expanded to 8gb. Lock screen enhanced from ripple effect to light effect. No hangs or lags. Haven’t experienced with battery back up yet. ll keep posted on further improvements.

It is showing device capacity as 8GB but system is using 3.96GB as previously shown…. and only usable is 4GB only…. its not expanded….

First Time whene I try the version is started updateing but its not complete and I cancel it and now…!!!

i also updated my galaxy grand from 4.1.2 to 4.2.2 but i am also facing the same issue while installing update it crashed in between now it is still showing 4.1.2 and when i am trying to look for update by OTA or kies it shows ” new version of android already installed on your device ” …i too tried factory restore setting but nothing happening i though lost my data but nothing happening with the device…pls suggest me what to do or i have to look it on service center if they already have the 4.2.2 update of it.

I got it updated…seems less sophisticated than before…calculator lost all scientific operations…tan sin cos exponential etc…..nt liking it as such

navjeet even i faced the same prob…..but then i realised that after updating the option “Screen Rotation” is disabled…..just enable it n den use the calculator….u wud see scientific calculator on rotation…..else u can also switch modes by pressing the menu button….

Found this bug.. When in the camera, trying to review a pic you just took takes ages.. I’m happy that the new update lets you move apps to SD card now.. :). Wish they included USB on the go support too.. can’t check it for now. And i find the UI more user friendly and less laggy. The improvements in keyboard is appreciable.

The text in all the applications is appearing in “bold”, i have noticed this especially on Watsapp, this is really a pain to the eye…

After the update, several issues I notice are:
1. I am unable to bookmark pages
2. The basic punctuation marks are not available like the previous version. It is a tedious process of going to Symbols on the keyboard and then choosing the appropriate punctuation marks.
3. I am unsble to turn off haptic vibration. Especially of the lock screen.

Can someone please help to overcome the issue? After the files have been installed, nothing happens. And when I tried manully it says I have the latest version though I have the same 4.2.1

Awesome experience.. just download yesterday thru ota…. improved features n much speedy than b4 d previous version… n battery backup has too improved… already waited 4 d update ovr an month… much happy nw with my grand… 🙂

I also got OTA update message but i cancelled it first time as i was not on wifi but when tried later, it says all latest update have already been installed, did u get the same theing ?

then you can contact thru samsung service center or care.. they wil update ur phone for free of cost.. have a try n gud luck…..

nope i continued on after many disconnects n finally updated around of 6 hours thru mobile data n wifi….. n i got d new updated version… 🙂

updated a few days ago… after the update, the touch screen seemed to be a lot smoother and sensitive, also the improved the interface, the big downside to it all though is that now my phone hangs; something that i did not experience before the update

I have updated my grand to 4.2.2 last night. I think 4.2.1 was better as after er upgrading my phone has become slow and touch is also not responding well as it used to do before upgrading.
There is no major changes but samsung sholud look forward and make this update better.

hi ronak shah go to application manager -> all -> then select samsung update app then clear data in it and force stop it.
next as usual go to about phone and update its over.it worked for me

Hay guys, if u don’t get updates thru OTA, then check thru Kies! I had the same problem of 1st time showing server busy and later showing no updates. Now my mobile is updated to 4.2.2 🙂 thru kies! it has lot of upgrade and find them in help under topic “new features”!

My galaxy grand has been updated through OTA. No issues in updating.
However after the update, Wi-Fi hot spot is not connecting to my PC. But USB thethering works fine. Is there any solution.

definitely not all the data that was created will be present on the mobile after updating just UI and perfomance improvements will be done. update it without hesitation

I got the update 4.2.2 through FOTA. But multi window and
lock screen swipe options are disabled!! I am unable to enable them!!! Initially the phone was sluggish, now it is ok. May be I got used to it. All my data are intact!

Update is very charming. it is good that there is an option to move app to SD..but have anybody found a way to move application data to SD card.

Really pathetic release, can’t believe how Samsung done this kind of havoc. I am really disappointed after updating my phone to 4.2.2. Kind of UI they have provided in new release is no were near to old one and their competitor iPhone. Is there a way to roll back to previous version please let me know. Poor, very poor performance by Samsung.

Hi 4.2.2. recently hit my galaxy grand duos for good..Updated.Awesome changes..But I noted one glitch…I could flawlessly stream music to Bluetune Divoom bluetooth stereo speakers prior to update.But post update I could not play music smoothly thro this speaker via bluetooth…The music breaks and spoils the whole mood…I think there might be a bug in this official update for bluetooth…Has anyone encountered any issues with music play via bluetooth speakers/headphones.Pl confirm

I noticed few bugs after I updated my galaxy grand duos to 4.2.2 (Indian version)1.video app of samsung is not working2.contact widgets on your screen vanishes after you restart your phone every time.

Developer Option is hidden in 4.2.2
However, to enable it..
Go to Settings –> About Device –> Tap build number 5 to 6 times and developer option would be enabled… This is what I found on one of the sites… I tried following those instructions and the developer option was enabled…

I had these problems too, I fixed it by simply going to application manager and resetting my app preferences. This will clear anything you’ve previously disabled but you can easily go and disable them again once everything is working.

wel i didnt updated with kies… so may be server problem.. i tried with ota.. u can try with it same further..

well dont go to any service center as i have already visited and guess what they have the oldest version of 4.1.2 which needs to be updated thrice once with 38mb , 78mb and 32 mb for same version …as samsung has not yet provided them with 4.2.2 on their network site , what we use to get from sources is different for that one ….so dont waste your time to refer any service center …wait for 22nd sep as it flow around world wide hence decreasing load on samsung network and hope we can update our phone then …. i know its irritating but that all what we can do …. well this 1st time happen with me and i am going to dump my phone if it still dont receive update ….

i got 2 update in 2 days of kies one by one , update ur kies to update ur phone it will work … but i’ll suggest u to do OTA coz through kies u might get some bugs …i got error in my update via OTA and now i can not update my phone still using 4.1.2 🙁 gor for it

I upgraded my Samsung Grand with the latest version and found out really cool apart from few things which i think were really gud… like, not able to see frequently called people under favourites tab, all options for call duration till date is not available, Mute, add call option are not there when you are on a call. Like this there are no. of options which i think were really gud earlier but now are missing.

I updated my galaxy grand to 4.2.2 and I am experiencing a problem. I have enabled swipe lock and now I am unable to get both swipe lock and pattern lock simultaneously. Pattern lock is very essential and I like the new swipe lock screen as well.
Any solutions?

if any1 z havng battery problem…completly discharge ur phon n charge it in switchoff mode itself…..aftr gettng fully chargd..jus remove ur battry n put it bak aftr 3 min…n thn switch on…..thn chck ur battry back up……it wil laas more………………………………..nd 4.2.2 update z really gud……its far bettr than previous version….m totaly satisfied……

After update the Facebook icon is showing 4 new notifications even though there are no new notifications. Issue still persist even after reinstalling the face book app. The GUI is not appealing and all my icons are much bigger and no option to decrease the icon size. The 4.1.2 version’s GUI was much better. Other than that, it has lots of cool stuffs and settings.

correct. i faced d same prob. it is showing 5 notifications. but when i went to fb…there was no notification.

Here’s the list of changes I’ve got:

1.Fonts have become little bit bolder
2.Improved Battery backup
3.Improved UI
4.Apps can be moved to SD card ( Apps that supports ) as in 2.3.6
5.While Calling there is a button called ‘extra volume’
6.Faster than the 4.1.2
7.Transparent notification bar
8.Editable shortcut buttons on notification bar
9.Pattern lock has become smaller to use without one hand operation
10.Safety assistance option is available in settings
11.settings got categories

Overall good expirience
update took 35 minutes to download and 15 minutes to install…

Sure is Faster than the previous version. Also lots of goodies .. certainly better on the touch part. The worst change is that with the new ver 4.2.2 the dialler key pad is missing with the Mute, Add [conference] and Headset functionalities. This is a big let down.

call should be ongoing… if you are just dialling and the call is not yet started then, these options would be disabled….

I got yesterday OTA update and took one hour and finally said update is complete and ready to install. Then it rebooted and when the screen reappeared it said update to 4.2.2 failed. Go to kies for updating. When I retried to update manually it gives message that latest software version is available on my phone. I still have 4.1.2.Now will I get notification again for OTA?

Yesterday when i checked then it was showing the new update 4.2 but when today i am trying to update it through wifi & it shows that my phone is up to date but its still 4.1.2

In this case, you will need to connect your pc and the update would be available through Kies…. Please to your pc with Kies… you will get the update there…

I love the new update, the only thing that is bugging me is that the assistive light widget is not the same style as the active apps widget, is this just me or for everyone else too? On the Galaxy Mega both widgets are the same style.

i too have updated with a latest version 4.2.2 but there is a problem of not connecting a conference call… pls do suggest the settings if any one knows about it.

My friend….. as I earlier commented for somebody…. Conference call option would get enabled only when you are connected to one call…. it wont get enabled while you are just dialling…. same is the case with Mute option…. Try it…

When I tried updating, after downloading package insatallation got failed. So device was not updated. Anyone faced that issue ??

Same thing happened for me, I downloaded the 488.76mb update (using my wifi *Airtel GB limit* which i will never get back till next month bill reset….) Then it asked me to reboot my device so I touched the option and my phone restarted with the android having its chest open with some blue icon rotating while having an installation bar at the bottom which was moving pretty fast. When it reached 24% the Android Logo Fell down flat with its chest open and the blue icon near its chest became red, after that the device automatically restarted again and came to lock screen.
Once unlocked I got a message saying “Failed to update firmware, please try again using PC software kies or visit service center.

I even tried via Kies. It “downloaded” something very fast as soon as I clicked upgrade firmware (and clicking I agree etc). But, immediately after that another download started but this one was very slow, it was stuck at 0% for 15mins then moved to 1% and then to 2% after another 15mins, I gave up and cancelled.

I called Samsung Customer care (They were utterly ridiculous). Those guys were not aware of the 4.2.2 update and kept countering me for a while saying there is no such update for my phone…. Then after 15mins of trying to convince those idiots that there is an update, they finally told me to go to a service center..

I owned a HTC before a Galaxy Grand, the firmware updates on it was painless, I am regretting buying a Grand for the first time now (was happy with it till now)

If anyone has any solution to my problem (which is doable at home and not some #$#@% service center) Please let me know.

Dude for updating via Kies, download depends on your internet speed… If internet speed is a bit slow, then it takes time to download and upgrade…. It was stuck at 0% for 15min.. but it will move on slowly, sometimes it takes time (may be 2 hours or 3 hours)… I suggest you keep your phone connectedvia Kies and leave it for some reasonable amount of time…. It might take some time… Try it.. (unless your pc internet doesnt have any download limit)

Hey thanks for replying. .. I tried updating via kies on 2mbps speed and it moved 1% every 15mins (left it for 3-4 hours) maximum it went was 20% which was unacceptable. AnywayI kept trying via ota again and again and again, it worked on the 4th time. I called samsung service center after that and they claime kies was failing and ota too cuz of samsung servers being strained.

i also updated my software version to 4.2.2, the update was good in some aspects and also having some disadvantages.My mobile was getting stuck frequently and yesterday i don’t know what happened the response from my mobile was very slow which i cant ever imagine that it became that slow, also i tried to restart my mobile but i couldn’t ,nearly after 10-15 mins i was able to restart my device but still the touch response was very poor. Also the device performance looks faster a bit after the update but performing any operation is taking very much time for me. Some of the updates were good but response and performance were reduced compared to previous version……..

I too had same experience. Felt like performance lag after the update. Slows down or gets stuck in between the usage. Please look into this and have an update to fix the issue,.

I have updated mine as soon as I got notification from Kies… I am having some bugs. My suggestion would be to wait for some more days and see the reviews….

Go ahead and update… There is no problem as I updated.. First download OS and it will restart and install it patiently… Then again go software update there would be 7mb file, which I feel it is for battery problem… Download that as well i have done it 20 hour ago no problem at all.

Hi all..i just updated my galaxy grand and it keeps getting stuck…and i
can’t load any of my apps, i get an error message saying “Unfortunately
Viber has stoped”. and the worst part is that my SD card is not been
displayed on the phone along with the data in it..i checked my SD card
on the pc and all the data is still there. i can’t even attach a photo

Hi My grand got a battery problem here. If fully charged, i can only use it for 2 hours. also some stuck , touch problems. But the interface is looking nice. What i need to do for this bugs?? Also smart eye is not working.

Smart eye never worked for me actually, even before this update… Only the eye icon used to appear at the top. I thought it might be because I wear specs and it is not able to detect my eyes. Reply here if you find out more about this issue.

How Jeff…cell is dead slow…acting weird…at times In coming call doesnt show up..call gets disconnected on its own..very very slow to operate..need this to fix asap

Ive updated my mine to 4.2.2, took over 30 Minutes to download and update.

As One of the user Kailash mentioned the specs are same. Pros and Cons as below:

Pros:

*Buttery smooth experience, fell like using S3
*Notification panel can be customized.
*S3 like Music player and video player
*fast and responsive
*no lags so far, no problem opening any app.
*Active sync UI is really awesome.

Cons:

*Talk will be replaced by hangouts (many will not like hangout)
*screen lock when u have configured active sync is replaced by PIN obviously, and is too reflective, gives heptic (vibrating ) feedback, i did not find an option to disable this.

Finally i was able to update..(4.1.2 –> 4.2.2)
1st time ,2 days back , i was not able to update and it says latest version already installed.
Took around half an hour to download and 15 – 20 min to install.(via OTA)
& thn second patch of around 7.2 Mb installed..took 3-4 mins

I updated to latest software. Now I found an unusual issue. I am unable to send or receive any text messages. While for other internet apps are ok like whatsapp. Phone messaging system seems to hav problem. If someone has similar problem and hav any solution pls help out. Thanks

Well, I have seen everybody praising the interface and the look.. Ya, that’s a great addition to the handset.

Apart from all this I don’t know how many of you guys have noticed that Samsung moved to stock android practices, especially the notification panel. before with 4.1.2, the handset was having a level of transitions and flow, even the size of the icons. Meanwhile they introduced customizable notification panel, but the icons are just stock android icons.

Due to improvements in interface, the UI stops to respond. Even the internal memory available also decreased from available. The update is fine in terms of appeal, but performance wise it needs more improvement.

Last night I updated to the latest, apart from all highs mentioned by the others and lows may be I was unique where the multiwindow option was disabled and an smartstay was included. Were there any settings to be changed to enable multiwindow.

The one handed operation is no longer available for the qwerty keyboard . Only the dial keypad has this option…. which is very annoying now.

my phone is working so slow after update….it is hanging again and again….tht wasnt before update….ny tips…or do i need to go to service center

On the whole UI experience really good and fonts became smaller and bolder. During pattern draw why device vibrates? how to turn it off?

I got yesterday update and update is complete Then it reboot automatically.

But the problem is, when my mobile turn on again, i cant receive message anymore for both sim card. If i receive message, there is no text inside it. Otherwise, it just mention (NO SUBJECT) inside the text message.

MY PHONE IS FASTER NOW….
The apparent change I have noticed is that my Galaxy Grand GT-i9082 phone has become faster. There are more features available now.

I didnt like it as the icons got bigger. the Exchange Mail is totally disgusting. Also the S Planner (Calendar) the fonts are bigger and it does not show the events in the below grid. Need to click on the date and then it shows the events.

Totally waste and didnt like it.

my wifi was dead since 4.2.2, can not turn on wifi, it will automatically off, anybody know how to fix ? restart, plug out battery has no effect, don’t tell me to reset my phone.

please guys dont update your phone. update sucks. the phone has become very very slow and also its hangs many times. no smooth experience, previous android version had less features but was very good performance wise. this is really bad update.

don’t update !!! it’s not good …i have not found any thing good yet in 4.2.2. even phone call menu not contain favorite option…it’s really sucks !!!!!

it is still there in mine…. make a call, once connected dial another num. once the 2nd call too is connected, clink on “Merge call”.

yeah i knw hw it is done but nw merge or make a call option is nt thr… all i see is speaker button, keypad button on which u cn just type nd the end button.. nothing else

i updated android 4.1.2 to 4.2.2 in my Samsung Galaxy Grand I9082

there are some problems likes

>do not give option of smileys in messages

>can not use MULTI WINDOW option
>how move application in memory card????

Settings>>More>>Application Manager>>ON SD Card
Check the Application that you want to move to SD card, tap on Move to SD Card Button.

reboot fixed it for me… i was getting some 4XX error while trying to dowload the apps.. for others, disabling the google account -> reboot and readding account helped.

As i have configured my mobile with my office email, i need to lock my screen with a pin.

while unlocking the screen, phone getting vibrated.

Yes, thats a very good news. I hope all the external apps can be moved to SD card. Then it means we can install as many games as required. One more question, how to play real racing 3 on this phone without rooting the phone and other circus. In Play store it says the device is not compatible and no option to download. very disappointed :(, Same with Asphalt 8 :'(

Updated to 4.2.2 successfully.. no issues found. The update has really improved Grand. But sad story is no 4.3 official update coming for Grand as per some re-known websites. (no official update).

Yes, the interface is beautiful and everything. (They also brought back the screenshot editing option that had disappeared after a particular update in 4.1.2) but it hangs a lot, then restarts. It’s annoying. I update it two days back. It comes with a nice interface but not worth it because of the crashes. Gallery loads WAY TOO SLOW!

Update works fine. After the 488 MB update ,there’s another 8 MB update for stability.New features : Setting panel ,Transparent status bar for TouchWiz users only , Revamped Apps , Daydream , Categorized Setting menu , Driving Mode etc; . Bad news : No Lock screen widgets . Lock screen space is much small ( Which sucks , Samsung guys should work on this ) . And yeah there are little tweaks

i tried updating ota bt tha update failed due to network failure n ws unable 2 update later so got it updated from samsung care on tuesday. As of now this update is awesome and ma loving the battery backup that has increased by nearly150%. But there are a few gitches for which ma sure samsung would do something. Rest evrythn is just awsm n the ui is also cool.

Dont update from 4.1. Wifi hotspot, contacts, phone log, favorites, all stop responding. Phone has to be restarted even to receive calls. This update 4.2.2 as well as the supplementary update (of about 7 MB) is a really bad one. In messages, removing the delete button from top right is really inconvenient, and i wonder who has been designing the user interface. Sucks, sucks, sucks,,, go ahead suckers…

Go to Settings-> “More networks” in network connection->tethering and portable hotspot->select portable wifi hotspot->then configure it.

Try uninstalling any update you did to the Play store. I found issues on 4.2.2 where the video was all pixelated on youtube app. I uninstalled the update and it worked fine. I hope it helps.

After the update to 4.2.2 it works very smooth. I have got most of the features of gs4 like lock screen widgets, light effect on lock screen, new settings menu , even smart stay also, transparent status bar, etc, etc.. I am quite impressed what samsung done.and i think the battery backup is also increased a little…:)

Hi after updating to 4.2.2 my phone is not showing any contacts. It always shows loading contacts and it continues the same for call logs too. However contacts are visible in whats app. Any idea how to fix it ?

try re installing it…actually at the time of installation there might be some notification or like calls were coming which had disturbed the update process…try it in night or remove sim cards or put it on flight mode(less safer for this as per me)….problems will be resolved…and if not then take it customer care…and do remember to take back up of contacts, memos, call logs, imp application before updating…this can be done by back up and reset…while updating make sure that ur device is fully charged..or connect it with a chargr..hope will help..

Hi Pradeep, I think for re-installing, you must backup your data first then do the factory reset of the phone. After doing this your phone will be just like the fresh mobile without any updates. Then you can update the software again. Hope that resolves your query.

One of d worst update and unstable version.
remove the basic functionality like :

1. cant see ny other contacts or message evn make memo while on call. Have to cut down the call.
2. Cant select and delete multiple message. Have to delete one at a time.

3. Big icons like of cheap mobile.

I did a update from 4.1.2 to 4.2.2 in my galaxy grand. The update is about 450 mb (approx). Now the phone work really well. Now I have another 7.42 mb (approx) update. Should I do this update? Im scared if it will spoil the phone as im very satisfied now with 4.2.2. Please help 🙂

Just take it , it wont affect the performance , I have done both the updates the 7.2 mb one comes just after the first update , with both these updates the performane has really improved .

One of my Grand duos had been updated spontaneously …. it is very delight and the new version more stable with more clear screen and more bueaty appearance …. Well I had another 2 devices ,and I tried to update them ,but each time I seek the update … the message that the device is up todate appear … I am asking is it possible to update these devices via the kies?

as such i dont have any issue android 4,2 works good on my grand….but there is a problem in it’s performance some time it works fairly smooth n faster then android 4.1 but sometimes it lags and gets hang and trust me you won’t like to happen with your set! According to me it’s a beta version n there’ll be an update for it’s performance,until then we have to use as it is!!
the best feature i liked in it that i can move my games on sd card ,i don’t have to root it but the application file remains in phone memory but it’s installed components(files) are shifted to sd card;results in saving a whole lot of space.

In the about device try clicking on some of the buttons like kernel versionor some others around 8 times nd u will see a message “you are now a developer” and u are good to go 😉

After the update 4.2.2 I started to get the following annoying message on several applications “unfortunately, xxx has stopped” on Viber, Tango, Skype, Hidman…etc. Also, the Chrome does not work as it opens and close immediately. Note that I installed the small fix as well.

Android 4.2.2 is the worst update for Grand. Samsung should concentrate more on their R&D b4 releasing tht to the general public.
Following probs:
Hangs frequently.
Dead slow.
To pen Gallery, contacts, camera it takes 1 to 2 min.
Restarts several times in a day.
Drains battery very quickly…
Real shame on Samsung.

Hi Andy…Just take all data backups and do a complete factory reset…This should help resolve the issue. It resolved mine.

I have so many issues since the update.
1. My battery doesn’t get charged to 100% and the recharging is extremely slow.
2. Battery drains out to almost 30%-40% within 2 hrs even without making a single call or using any other apps on the phone
3. The phone freezes so often.

Relax dude…I had the same problem .Just take all data backups and then do a factory reset.It should resolve your issue. I did it and till now no issues

Yesterday I got another medium size (82MB) firmware stability update on my Grand duos. Last week only I had upgraded to 4.2.2 (488MB). I don’t see in any forum they r talikng about this latest update from samsung. BTW Grand is performing ok after all these updates.

All my screens show up multiple messaging icons now :(:(. How do we edit this? This is the panel in your home screen that shows icons like Contacts, Message and Menu icon.

Check whether u have enough free space in internal memory at least 2GB.Restart your device and check the update using wifi if u have or using kies it will surely get updated

Earlier when we touched a message it would open in a new screen with only the message. There we could have options to copy part of text, dial a number directly etc. This functionality seems to have come in the call out directly now. But does the old separate screen functionality continue to exist?

I’m also facing similar issue. Can’t do conferencing any more. Also the favorite icon which was available in dialing window has disappeared. I’m at all not enjoying the new version. Android will soon have to come up with some solutions……

My Grand works fine after update except i cant swipe my keyboard to switch between symbols and alphabets, i loved that feature but it doesn’t work now!! i changed its settings too, offed it and put it back on but didn’t work. also my “Gallery” and “Messaging” icons look a bit different and the icons over all look more buttonish…. i wish i hadn’t updated!!!!!

After the upgrade to 4.2.2, Observed that message delete option is gone. Gesture setting like double tap at the top of the phone will take you to the first contact feature is disappeared. Also ‘developers settings’ portion in Settings screen is no more available. Also after the upgrade, all the application icons started looking oversized.

@samsunguk:disqus I got only the 7Mb update after the upgrade to 4.2.2, performance degraded after that. The phone works fast normally, but if it is connected to Wi-Fi or Mobile Data is ON, it hangs up pathetically. I flashed my phone in Samsung Service Centre with a new 4.2.2, but still it was hanging….so I did factory reset as u suggested. Still this hanging over Wi-Fi or Mobile data happens. Any help?

i have recently purchased Samsung grand dues i9082 and am constantly facing problem with incoming and outgoing Voice calls. As instructed by the dealer i have gone through the servicing of my phone 1 time already and checked with my sim service provider about service but it seems it is a problem with my phone only as i cant hear the voice of person on the other end of phone and similarly he also doesnt gets my voice.

It has been a real struggle that after spending 20000 rs i am not happy with the dealer and service of this phone. So please guide me what to be done.

From those experiencing hangs and slow working after the update. I did a hard reset to my grand after the update was installed. Do this for your phone’s and I can assure it you wont face such problem again. Worked for me and all those people. I suggested by far

P. S kinda miss the multi Window option after the update though

u can still use the multiwindow wen in standard mode/ as well as with the crashing apps jus uninstall the said apps and reinstall

it was working fine with android version 4.1.2.

The phone is facing a lot of issues since my upgrade to Android 4.2.
The phone hangs up every now and then. Applications crashes very often.
Also facing performance issues.
I have to remove the battery often to bring out phone from hung state.

Unable to pick up call or dial no. many times. Battery backup has considerably reduced. Even USB connection to PC gives a lot of problem.
Please suggest what should be done to resolve or fix the issue or is there a way around.

P.S. : I am keeping almost 50% of internal memory free to make it work fine that also is not working.

Recently after the main Android upgrade Samsung have released two more updates, try installing those and u may feel a better performance even though its not that gr8.

I have just upgraded to the 4.2.2 last night(Samsung Grand Duos). Post which, I have no option to Add call/Mute/Hold-Unhold/BT Headset options when in an active call. Also, am not able to set a caller ring tone for any specific contact. Neither can I set that as a favorite. When sending a text there is no option to send a smiley too, except that the smiley will come up when typed manually. Battery backup has seen no changes nor has any apps crashed(touch wood!!). Performance seems to have had no changes as well. Its good performance wise, except that its missing on so many features..

Any solution for the above mentioned issues?

Download applicaion called “Spare parts +” from the play store. once the application is installed Uncheck the option “Haptic Feedback”. the pattern won’t vibrate then.

Answer is NO if you don’t wanna lose your warranty. 4.2.2 does not have much improvement, but that’s a stock android through Samsung.

This version 4.2 is no doubt better in look and feel. But I am facing a particular problem after the recent update like whenever I am trying to open my hidden files from gallery the gallery pauses and crashes in turn.
Its really annoying me as a user kindly investigate the matter.

Once u update your handset to JB 4.2.2, even if u do a factory reset you will get the same android 4.2.2 only.

My galaxy grand showing incorrect battery status. Battery shows charging even after unplugging charger. Very soon it comes 100% in ghostly manner without any connection and then sticks to same status. If uncharged going with this status then all of sudden phone becomes dead due to battery depletion to 0% without any warning. Not sure if this is because of version upgrade to 4.2.2. This was going well in India but noticed this ghostly behaviour the day I landed in US. Then same day I upgraded the version and since then this issue is prominent. Almost daily I need to restart the phone to have correct status of battery. Not sure if this is a existing bug not handling power supply difference correctly or the bug introduced by version upgrade to 4.2.2. Can any one suggest the solution?

Hi, i ve been using my grand 4.1.2 for about 2 months…and frequently i experience a black screen for a sec..and then the display is back on again,still in the same task as before,but the colour resolution drops a bit and the colors seem somewhat pale… it takes a while for it to get back to the right colour scale….this happens even while playing a game ,searching a contact, and even when left idle for a while…..

i would really appreciate any suggestions for this prob…

Just take backup of your data and do a factory reset and then again restore your data back…. your issue would be resolved…

After updating the samsung grand with 4.2.2 made my device slow..and also don’t giving any option to stop vibration when i set security on pattern and pin.

For Slow issue: Take backup of your data through Kies and then do a factory reset and then restore your data back. Slow issue and battery drain issue would be resolved. At least it worked for me.
For Vibration issue: Download spare parts+ application from Playstore. In that you will find Haptic Feedback option which is already selected. Just remove the selection from Haptic Feedback and your vibration issue would be resolved.

After update 4.2.2 Jb in galaxy grand.. the function snapshot playing on video is not available in this version. Pls suggest me how to get that function. and also phone is slow.

It solves (1) and (4), still hidden files can not be retrieved, ‘Unfortunately, Gallery has stopped’ message shows up.

To see the Favourites in your contact menu, simply change the view of home screen from easy mode to standard mode in “settings- my device” and you should be able to view…

After the upgrade the stock dialer does not give an option to choose other software like viber, Skype to call. This was not the case earlier.
The interesting thing is that for messaging, I do get the options, but not for calls.

Hi… I have updated software of my phone Galaxy Grand, but my internet speed has slowed down immediately after that! Now my phone is not getting High Speed range for my BSNL 3G data card. Net speed has become so slow that even whatsapp msgs are not getting sent.

My sister’s Grand which is not updated receives High Speed with BSNL 3G ..but not mine…
Plzzz Help me…

After my gran duos jb 4.2.2 update Ifound some gesture and motions in previous ver.have been removed cant send mp3 file directly from music player multi window does not work on easy mode worst major update till now.

all those are facing problem, just go to samsung service centre and tell them to re-update your device…. all the problems will be fixed…. actually there is a problem when updating using wifi or kies….

R u sure Mr. Arun that service centre will fix all the problems, cz i hv also upgraded the version and facing same problems as Rachita, and gtng tensed.

after a hard reset i am nw facing battery problems when i installed more apps… but hanging prmblms are solved throughly which was occuring in previous version… so any 1 facing this prmblm or is it a bug… i think Samsung should upgrade d software once again…

After updating the software, my gallery is not working properly. The hidden files do not open up. “Unfortunately the gallery has stopped working” this message flashes om the screen. What do I do to get my hidden images back?
Also the phone working has become very slow. Some car mode automatically gets enabled anytime on my phone.
The hand touch motions of double tapping and shaking phone to scan for bluetooth devices are also not available.
The unlock screen patten vibrates badly. :/
The phone anytime starts showing 100% battery even when it’s not fully charged and then suddenly the phone is switched off with 0% battery.
phone is hanging up badly while playing games..on whatsapp.
Loved my phone before but now terribly disappointed with the latest update. Wish I had not updated. 🙁

Here is the way to get back your HIDDEN ITEMS after the gallery is giving problem after the 4.2.2 upgrade.Go to My Files>Settings & Check the show hidden items.Now go to My Files and go to Device Storage.You will see a folder “.hide” where u can see the hidden images. You can copy and save.

So .. yet I don’t if I face he same problems . But the one problem which I am facing jow is with my gallery .. I can’t send picture … or upload them .. basically somethig wrong with it

i also downloaded the update then i found it was OS update, then i found negative reviews regarding it (before installing )..so i didnt installed…but the problem is that it asks for installation after every 3 hours….i want to solve this problem permanently without installing it……

JB 4.2.2 has pretty good look… but i shld say that it was created only for look and options.. Not for Speed, Accuracy and Performance.. Apps are opening but dilouge box come and asks “U want wait or Close”. it asks everytime… Some time i think that throw out to the streets.. irritating to me.. previous version is very very good….

I tried to put the message to android… but didn’t find the option to message…. My friends its almost late to put this message, although plz dont update nd don’t get irritate….

Here is the way to get back your HIDDEN ITEMS after the gallery is giving problem after the 4.2.2 upgrade. I FIGURED OUT..
First Download “AndroZip” APP(from playstore).Open this App and go through your device storage and you will find a FOLDER named “.hide”. This FOLDER contains all that HIDDEN ITEMS.From there just COPY or MOVE the HIDDEN ITEMS to a NEW FOLDER or some OTHER FOLDER, there are options, and CLOSE the APP.Now open your My Files, open ALL FILES and open DEVICE STORAGE and you will get it there, IN THE FOLDER you have moved the HIDDEN ITEMS or in the NEW FOLDER you created and in which you have copied or moved the HIDDEN ITEMS if you have created a NEW FOLDER.

After updating a software to 4.2.2 I have a problem for Third party software’s are not working and google chrome is not working and pictures are unable to upload on social networking sites like whatsapp.

Seriously this update sucks. Y does Samsung even come up with such bullshit updates after which v hv to go to a service centre factory reset it to fix problems that they gave us???
I am currently having these problems:
1. Cant upload a pic anywhere.
2.all messengers not working..even after reinstalling them(line whatsapp chat on)
3. Connectivity problems with wifi
4. No crop option..
5.cant swipe to go to next tab when multiple tabs open.
6.so mny apps stopped working…

P.S I read the bad reviews and had bn dodging update which used to come evry few hrs… even after that it automatically got updated after 3 days.

This can be solved by a hard reset, because this is not that common problem.
If u had tried reinstalling Whatsapp, try a hard reset

Hard reset in the sense is a factory reset.

You can do this, after switching off the cell.

Press and hold the volume up key+Home key+Power button and switch on your cell…keep in mind dat y r holding these three keys.

Upon switching on u will get a menu from which u cqn select erase all data. This will roll back ur cell to factory condition.

Ifu feel the process is bit hard..
Just go for Backup and reset in settings menu and reset ur phone.

Beware to take backup of all data in ur phone memory.

After the update my grand their is some problem in between calling when I am try to call some that time no sound from both tha side so I just restart my phone to call again that its work but its not a solution do the need full pls

Hope you can go to a customer service centre, n get back the old, but thats not a guaranteed option..
Or Flash with Odin, but its risky and faults may void ur warranty

Recently updated my Grand duos to 4.2.2. First I new was a notification on the phone.
Total download was 538mb.
No overheating problems but some apps stopped working namely Viber, Tango and google +.
Solved Viber and Tango by uninstalling then reinstalling them.
Google + preinstalled so cannot do it.
Still getting occasional; notification that Google+ has stopped working.
Not good for Samsung

only problem which i am facing after updating to Android 4.2 is over heating and battery is draining faster ,apart from that phone is working fine without any lag issue. and one more thing if you see the multi window option disabled ,don’t worry change it to standard mode it will start working .Cheers !!!

i did firmware update on my galaxy grand phone …. on 17th sep 2013 … i have so many problems since

1) i cannot send pictures via watsapp
2) i cannot use instagram now… it says uploading not possible
3) there is vibration in the pattern lock
4) i cannot find the crop button

after upgrading to 4.2.2 , I am facing the Touchwiz issue and couldn’t able to perform any action, only resolution i can see that Restart the phone. Lots of issues in performance wise, Phone is slow and i tried to clear all the Cache memory and all sort of fixes but didn’t work on it.

After Upgrading to 4.2,im facing some issues in my contact list..if i click on some contact..the name next to them will open up..

Very nice update. My phone is working smoothly after upgraded to 4.2.2. Received 3 updates one by one.new version is much better.phone doesn’t hang at all.

Think u r a saint, i have not met anyone without experiencing atleast one problem.

Check n see that u r getting battery backup as before, n the battery charging status is corretc.

Hi, 4.2.2 update has taken away many features from my phone. I suggest not to upgrade if you have older version please.
1. S Planner doesn’t shows only event, time and location – message body doesn’t open.
2. Multi window option is not working.
3. Conferencing is not working.
4. Attachments are not seen.

Just simply update manually by using Odin flash and download the 945 mb android 4.2.2 update file. Then flash using the odin mode.It worked for me and all features work as it should.

For Conference call facility —>Go to settings—> Select Home Screen Mode—> Now it should work!

Multi window option is not working.—-> Long press back key!

Anoop, thanks a ton buddy for sharing the way to get the conference call facility back. You are a saviour. I visited the samsung service center today and they told me that they will have to reinstall the software. They also said that there 50% chance that my phone may become dead after that. Hilarious.

The new firmware update is pathetic…

Lost so many features.
cant merge my contacts any more. ..the images cannot be edited. …no conference ca facility. …
nonetheless it hangs so often…im srsly regretting upgrading my cell.

I suggest everyone who have got problem with charging the battery to visit your nearest service centre and get it solved or u may lose your valuable batery life

They released a new update just a few days before and now it seems everything fine. No hanging after the latest stability update. Battery backup is fine. Charging time is reduced. Good performance. Now I am enjoying the new jellybean 4.2.2 after a few days regretting about updating my device.

u r right..I was panic when i had given my grand for repair in samsung customer care because i have read lots of bad reviews about grand duos update. But after update Now My phone is working very nice. that stability update did all the best for my phone..Battery backup is excellent..and now it is giving very fast performance too..

Hi friends, After upgrading to 4.2.2 , i cant able to select dual simcards in the network selection in samsung grand. Only the mode which selects as automatic that sim card is working.But the other one is neither showing nor working with the typs GSM only. U must backup ur all personal data’s
Any computer or ur c after
U off ur mobile And than volume+and powerkey&homebutton at the same time press don’t remove ur fingers coming android logo remove ur finger
U select all fectoty reset and delete
U press the power button
And than u see no no no no (yes)no no no. page u select yes after u see android logo down yellow collor words complete. After u select the reboot system finish
This automatically restart ur mobile

pathetic phone i ever seen in my life , after update i cant even add one more call on conference call big screen automatically comes when i am calling any one three button appear on screen while call is active .. keyboard then speaker and third one is call end .. tried to do setting but its not happening after updating my self phone… 2100 buks are such a big amount v paid for this chip self phone ….

Pathatic experience. . Aftee updating this I cant do conference calls. Mute option is not available. Fonts are also pathatic on log screen… wish I can throw this samsung phone which became peace of shit after opting 4.2.2

Once you update the it, default setting got change. Change the display setting from easy mode to standard mode and you will see all your option again. -:)

The problems you are experiencing is because of the major BUG introduced as a result of the UPDATE…But the solution is EASY and at a touch of a button in the settings. You do not have to download any app or anything.

You cant do anything because its the problem of the flop update, you can go back to older firmwares, but you need a manual flash!

He is not gonna do anything, its of some other interest! I dont want to hurt anyone, but SHARING IS CARING!

I just updated my Samsung Grand and it is behaving erratically, applications are not opening, I cannot make calls…screen black out, Freezing, messages not going…..it is just screwed up :(, just searching how to roll-back and get to my last version.

Horrible is the word…my phone is gone for a toss and its constantly hanging after upgrading to android 4.2.2….

For the time being, this update you have to adjust with, because you cant never downgrade an updated ROM ‘officially’ or you can do the following:

1. It is to flash your phone with older 4.1.2 JB and flash 4.2.2 JB over it, because the latest update have greater changes in internal partitions (BOOT,CSC,KERNEL,CACHE,DALVIK,PIT..anyone of them or whole, anyway dont bother). SO flashing back any older 4.2.2 alone cant save your phone. Flash an older version of 4.2.2 only, may be the K3 update

This upgrade 4.2.2 is bluddy shit.. making my phone hang all the time. VERST UPGRADE.. SAMSUNG SHOULD HAVE DONE TESTING BEFORE GETTING THIS UPGRADE LIVE.

How to get rid of that vibration thing in the lock screen wen I have pattern secured lock… and the music player works no good now…. it doesnot show the folder in which I had placed the music files… arrrgggg…. annoying…
