AmazonRefutes the free phone report from Amir Efrati and Jessica Lessin

Following a report by Jessicalessin.com on Friday that Amazon was thinking about providing its long-rumoured smartphone for free at launch, the company yesterday issued a statement refuting the report.

Amazon on Sunday said that it has no plans to launch a smartphone this year and if in future the company indeed releases one, it won’t be free.

Here is the complete statement from the company – “We have no plans to offer a phone this year, and if we were to launch a phone in the future, it would not be free.”

This is the first statement from the company regarding the long-running smartphone rumours and while it might have put a full stop on the free phone reports, we can still expect to see a phone from the company, if not this year.
