The research firm notes that handset makers like Samsung, Micromax and Apple are driving the smartphone sales in the country, which is growing four times faster than the global average. The worldwide smartphone sales grew by 39 per cent year-on-year compared to India’s 163 per cent rise.
Indian smartphone market is in fact growing faster than any other major country on the planet.
The report also adds that while global giants like Samsung and Apple are contributing to the smartphone sales in India, it is the home-grown handset brands that are seeing the fastest growth.
According to Strategy Analytics, Micromax, Karbonn and Spice are growing between 200 per cent and 500 per cent year-on-year basis, while the smaller ones like Lemon Mobiles are going up at 1,000 per cent annually.
As all the domestic players use Android as the operating system of choice in their smartphone, this Google backed OS has captured 89 per cent of the smartphone market in the country.
