The flagship smartphones for the first half of 2013 are already here, we have also seen some tablet launches but NVIDIA’s Tegra 4 SoC is nowhere to be seen. Now, NVIDIA has revealed that we will not have to wait for long and the first Tegra 4 devices will be announced in this quarter.

Company CEO Jen-Hsun Huang said on Thursday during the quarterly earnings call that tablets using the Tegra 4 SoC are currently in development and other devices will be announced this quarter, reports Tom’s Hardware.

Thanks to the leaks, we already know about some Tegra 4 devices, but apart from NVIDIA’s own Project Shield handheld gaming console, we are yet to see any official announcements. Toshiba and HP are reportedly working on the first Tegra 4 tablets and they are likely to be announced in the coming weeks.

There seems to be a surprising silence on the smartphone front, apart from ZTE’s Tegra 4 phone, we haven’t heard about any other phones, we hope that Huang is right and there are some announcements this quarter, otherwise the existing and next quarter will be a mess for the company. The company’s first LTE enabled chip Tegra 4i is also nowhere to be seen.

As per the last quarter NVIDIA results, the company’s Tegra sales declined 22.2-percent as it struggles to compete with Qualcomm, while other manufacturers focus on self-made processors.
