Samsung Galaxy XCover: A rugged Android smartphone from Samsung

A report is coming in from Dubai suggesting that Samsung is planning to launch a water/ dust proof version of Galaxy S 4 smartphone. Samsung executive Young Soo Kim reportedly stated in the Q & A session after the Galaxy S 4 launch press conference in Dubai that Samsung is working on a rugged variant of its flagship and it will be released in a few weeks.

Apart from this single mention on Techview.me, we could not find any other regional blog/ website reporting about the comment from Samsung Gulf executive (apart from the blogs that are crediting Techview as the source), so we are a little skeptical about this.

Samsung hasn’t been much active in rugged smartphone space, although it does sell its Xcover rugged smartphones in select markets, but apart from that we haven’t seen much on this front. Is the company try to change that with the launch of water/ dust proof Galaxy S 4? We will know in the coming weeks.

In related news, Samsung is also launching Galaxy S 4 in the Indian market on April 26.
