LG invites US tech press to an event on May 1, Optimus G Pro or G2 launch?

LG is sending out invites for a press event in New York City on May 1. The cryptic “share the genius” invite does not reveal anything exactly, but the blogosphere is speculating that LG might be planning to launch Optimus G Pro in the United States on the day. The phone is still available only in South Korea and Japan.

It is also possible that LG might announce a totally new device at the event, as Optimus G is getting old for current standards set by HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S 4 and the Korean manufacturer might bring out its real competitor for these smartphones – like Optimus G 2.

The company’s Optimus G 2 was spotted at a benchmarking website recently, and it can be introduced at the event.  As per the available information, LG Optimus G 2 will 1.7GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 (MSM8974)  processor, Adreno 330 GPU, full HD 1920x1080p display of unknown size, and Android 4.2.2.
