After being announced for African markets at Samsung Africa Forum, Samsung has now officially revealed the entry-level Galaxy Star and Galaxy Pocket neo for global audience. There is still no word on exact release date for these phones.
Samsung has revealed in a press release that both Galaxy Star and Galaxy Pocket Neo will be released in single-SIM or dual-SIM versions depending on the market. Both the phone run on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, but there is no word on Android 4.2 or future Android upgrades.
Talking about the phones, Samsung Galaxy Star features 1GHz processor, 3-inch QVGA TFT display, 2MP rear camera, 512MB RAM, 4GB of internal storage, 2G (no 3G), and 1200 mAh battery. Here is the full set of Galaxy Star specifications.
Coming to Galaxy Pocket Neo, the phone packs 850MHz processor, 3-inch QVGA TFT display, 2MP rear camera, 512MB RAM, 4GB of internal storage, and 1200 mAh battery.
It is surprising that apart from the processor, there is hardly any difference between these phones and even processor is not also that different, why will Samsung launch two almost same phones. Well, considering the Samsung approach of flooding the market with phones in every possible segment, it makes sense.
