Chrome, Android to remain separate: Eric Schmidt

google-bigtentGoogle Chairman Eric Schmidt has revealed that Google has no intentions of merging Chrome and Android operating systems. He was speaking at Google’s Big Tent event in New Delhi. He added that both will remain separate for a long time.

“Chrome and Android operating systems will remain separate products, although there could be more “commonality” between them,” he said in chat with Guardian’s Alan Rusbridger.

The recent news of Sundar Pichai taking over the charge of Android along with Chrome and Apps had fuelled the reports of Google’s plans to merge Chrome and Android. Pichai was made Android head after Andy Rubin decided to move on to other projects in Google.

Schmidt also apologised for lack of Nexus devices in the Indian market and said that Google was working to bring them to the country.
