US judge dismisses Apple vs Google patent lawsuit

A US district judge on Monday dismissed Apple’s lawsuit against Google Motorola unit over alleged patent abuse. The lawsuit was supposed to go on trial in a few hours. It is certainly a setback for Apple, as it continues its patent warfare with Android and related manufacturers.

Earlier, Apple had filed this lawsuit claiming that Motorola’s licensing practices were unfair, reports Reuters.

Reuters adds:

Apple and Microsoft accuse Google of demanding too high a royalty for some of its so-called standard essential patents. Motorola promised to license those patents on fair terms, they argue, in exchange for Motorola technology being adopted as an industry standard.

In its statement, Google said Motorola has long offered licensing at reasonable rates. “We remain interested in reaching an agreement with Apple,” the company added.

Microsoft is also making similar allegation against Motorola in separate lawsuit, which is happening next week.
