ZTE building an Android-powered 3D TV companion box

Google TV might not be gaining any significant ground, but manufacturers are using Google’s Android, which also works as the base for Google TV, on TV companion boxes.  After Lenono, which released an Ice Cream Sandwich powered TV early this year, another Chinese firm ZTE has stated that it is working on an Android powered 3D digital-TV box.

These companion boxes will be released in the market soon and will come with video-calling, and will support web-browsing, reported Bloomberg today.

ZTE has entered in a partnership with Kudelski SA (KUD)’s Nagra division, and will sell these Smart set-top boxes to customers of Nagra.

Nagra holds 70 percent share of Europe’s market for cable-TV devices, and 18 percent globally, ZTE said in a statement.
