But, thanks to quick XDA users, the Desire S ICS RUU is now available for download from the links given here (another link to download the RUU).
As this RUU is only meant for advanced users, so if you are not comfortable in installing it, then don’t. The initial reviews of the RUU have been decent on XDA, but there are many users who aren’t able to install it, so it is better to wait for the OTA update or an official statement from HTC (as there are rumours that Desire S might not get OTA update, but just an RUU similar to what company did with HTC Desire Gingerbread update).
There is no confirmed date for the OTA release, but considering the RUU is here, it should not ideally take long.
Installation:
Installing Android update via RUU is pretty simple. All you have to do is install the device drivers if they are not already installed. Then connect the phone using USB cable to the PC and run the ROM update utility. (Make sure to take backups of everything.)
It would finish in some time and you are will on the Android 4.0 with Sense 3.6.

Thanks Ketan for the tip

The links to RUU downloads provided in this article contain viruses, my PC Security informed me to this.
None of my scanners confirmed that… So happy upgrading everyone!
There won’t be ics OTA update for desire s. This is confimed!!!
I was told by htc support and it was writtem all over.
The only option to upgrdae is RUU
I downloaded and installed the ICS on my UK spec HTC Desire S. All I can say is that it works with no issues, all aspects of the phone works, & I have uploaded it to depositfiles.
Please download from here : http://depositfiles.com/files/ypr59qhsj
This is not a virus as I scanned it throughly, this is a genuine download link and it works
Hi Mate i have a Desire S in the UK so is there no ota update for the phone but just this RUU which we have to do manually? IS it confirmed by HTC or not
Thanks for the link…One question please,
I bought my Desire S per contract from a phone operator in Spain ( I mean that the mobile is not liberate). The mobile is not rooted. I never changed anything in. All in it is the official ( of the phone operator and of HTC).
In this case can I update via this RUU ?
Thanks in advance…
Hi Stani,
Yes, my htc desire s is also not rooted. As you are in the EU, you phone should work with the RUU update. All you do is, obviously download the file from my link, double click it and just go with the installation. It takes about 15 minutes to install.
But I’m sure, that it should work on your phone

Dharmesh

kamal
Hi Kamal,
I’m afraid that the one I have is the EU version as my phone is from o2 UK. I don’t know when HTC will release a version for India, but there is a new update that I saw yesterday. The World Wide English (WWE) & the other is China, there must be one for India later.
Thanks
can you a link for that
can you post a link for that
I updated to ics and its working very nice. Performance of ics compaired to 2.3.5gb is very nice.
Hi, it says “install devide drivers” if needed – can you explain what this means please.
Thank you
Hi all
I did install the package on my HTC Desire S and it works very fine. I am very happy and many tanks to HTC for the very nice and uer friendly interface. I was worth waiting for the HTC official upgrade
I installed the upgrade also. Thanks for the post here. It is working fine, however the phone became a bit sluggish under certain tasks, the hardware seem to struggle with the new OS. Angry Birds for example or Cut the Rope are a bit slower. The music cuts out when scrolling viber contacts while listening to music, things like this…..can be lived with of course. The RUU is also on HTCDev website now.
I tried upgrading my Desire S with this RUU but the upgrade failed. It shows Unknown Error each time I tried.
My phone is unlocked and S-ON.
Already upgraded for a month and found that call drops more frequently and sms problem; some recipients did not received my sms.
Is there a way to downgrade to earlier official HTC Desire S Android 2.3?
Appreciate our help.
