Along with the much rumoured Nexus 7 tablet, Google is also expected to unveil something called Nexus Q today at Google I/O.

Update: Google has officially announced Nexus Q as its first self-made hardware product.  It is an audio & video streaming device that pulls content from Google Play or YouTube to stream on televisions.

It can also be connected directly to speakers for just audio streaming. Priced at $299, it will be available in July with pre-order already underway at Google Play.

Google Nexus Q packs TI OMAP 4460 processor, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, NFC, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

The Verge notes:

Multiple Qs can be controlled from a given Android device, turning it into a multi-room solution, but the big selling point here is the social aspect. Different users can add music from their own Google Play music collection to the Q’s queue, turning it into a clever option for parties or group events
