China approves Google-Motorola deal

A long standing hurdle in Google’s acquisition of Motorola Mobility is finally gone, as China approved the deal. However authorities did put a condition before Google that Android should remain open to all for the next five years; which shouldn’t be a problem if Google has planned to remain fair to other hardware partners.

“We look forward to closing the deal,” Google spokeswoman Niki Fenwick stated.

Google had announced last August that it will acquire Motorola Mobility for $12.5 billion and this deal had got all the necessary regulatory approvals except in China.

On the interesting note, the $12.5 billion price paid by Google is more than the combined amount that Google has paid for the 185 other acquisitions that it has completed since going public in 2004. (AP)
