LG has announced a new addition to its smartphone lineup in Korea. Dubbed as Optimus LTE Tag, this smartphone is a stripped-down variant of Optimus LTE with NFC and Tag+ support. It joins Optimus Vu smartphone, which was announced earlier yesterday in the country. Both the devices will be displayed at upcoming Mobile World Congress.

“Our goal is to offer the widest variety of LTE smartphones in the industry in 2012. The Optimus LTE Tag isn’t just a cosmetically-enhanced version of Optimus LTE, it offers a truly innovative feature which we think really makes a smartphone smarter.”

Dr. Jong-seok Park, President and CEO of LG Mobile Communications Company

LG Optimus LTE Tag comes with a new feature called LG Tag+, which use NFC to communicate with special stickers or “tags” that can be programmed to automatically change the phone’s settings. This is similar to what was show-cased by Sony at CES earlier this year in the form of Smart Tags.

LG Optimus LTE Tag Features:

  • Android 2.3
  • 1.2GHz Dual-Core processor
  • 4.3-inch (800 x 480) IPS display
  • 16GB eMMC
  • 5.0MP rear camera with AF-LED Flash (Rear) & 1.3MP (Front)
  • Battery: 1,700mAh
  • LG Tag+, MHL(Mobile High Definition Link), DLNA(Digital Living Network Alliance)

LG Tag+ automatically changes the phone’s settings depending on the context. It uses NFC to communicate with special stickers or tags which you can stick anywhere. For example – on your desk or the dashboard of the car.
