Lenovo, ZTE and other Chinese manufacturers form alliance to keep off patent lawsuits

Advertisements

It seems some of the Chinese mobile phone manufacturers have decided to form an alliance to help them in fighting off the ever increasing patent lawsuits. A Digitimes report states that Lenovo, ZTE, TCL, Coolpad and Konka are part of this group.

With likes of Huawei already getting attention from Microsoft, it seems like a viable action to them. However they are not completely defenseless even without this alliance because Huawei and ZTE have over the years secured a number of patents for wireless communications technologies.

According to a Strategy Analytics report, the smartphone shipments crossed 24 million units in China last quarter making it the world’s largest market. Thus, with this growth International players like Apple, Microsoft and Nokia are believed to take actions to strengthen the protection of their wireless patents, in turn resorting to patent litigation. This recent decision to form an alliance will help Chinese manufacturers with such lawsuits.
