LG has finally started rolling out Android 2.3 update for Optimus One in India. The roll-out seems to have started in other Asian countries as well. You can check now via the LG Software update tool to download the update.
Several our readers including other tweeups have reported that Gingerbread update arrived this morning.
Full change-log is not available as of now, but according to earlier reports, this update will be offering the following improvements.
- Improved system performance
- Improved battery life
- Support for more Android apps
- Better user experience

No this is not true my Lg updater tool says i have latest version ie 2.2 froyo.
Submit you’r phone to LG service centre…they might help you…

Guys, I was able to successfully update my phone to V20B i.e Android 2.3.3 gingerbread yesterday evening. Everything is working fine. Loving it 🙂 Now all I need is root access. 🙂
PS: Touchscreen bug has not been fixed. 🙁

I have once installed european version gingerbread on my p500 ; and downgraded again to official froyo available at LG firmware repositories; my question is does that void my warraty and so that updater tool is denying me for official upgrade.

Gingerbread works fine on the optimus. But, the dictionary has been deleted which is really frustrating :(((((

I am from Hyderabad-India. This morning when i checked for update its said V20D is Available.. downloaded PC update tool, After installing it was ready to go.. i took some time to backup my phone.
After 1hr i connected my phone back..now it says your phone is updated, MY CURRENT VERSION IS V10E SAME AS BEFORE.

Who said that it’s fake…update was released in 25th august..my update notification just said me that v20b is available n when i connected with LG PC suit at midnight around 1am it said yes update is available….
When i updated
1. LG Home screen was fixed n made a major changes
2. Touch lag was also Fixed lil bit no to that extent user were expecting
3. More application was supported in Android Market.
4. Little bit fast on Restarting the phone.

Even my attempt to update using PC tool was not successful.
I got my O1 updated to GB, but only at service centre. I confirmed the ppl there, they said as of now we cant update using LG Update Tool.
After update, major difference is different UI experience, performance difference to early to comment upon, since as good as new phone with not much apps installed.
After Update:
1. No FB, twitter and O1 file manager by default, The Bollywood crap still there.
2. 150 MB phone memory left only.
3. Personally, I don’t felt any improvement in battery life, its still the same, can’t sustain more than 4-5 hrs of uninterrupted usage(FB chat, twitter, browsing, music n other apps that i used after upgrade) 🙁
Is it true that there is no dictionary?? is there a way to backup my existing dictionary and using it on Gingerbread?

Even I tried to Upgrade my OS But as you all got the updated os as 2.2.2 I Got the same .. I think we need to wait for one more week to get the Data base Updated… Hope for the Best to see soon 2.3.3 in You Optimus One P500..
from mumbai hey guys as i tried to update my 2.2.2 one to 2.3.3 on 26th but it doesnt show update and 27th tool shows update is available n when update was completed it angain show verson 2.2.2 n after this from that day to the till now it show update is not available so as im going to lg service center for update now let see what happens.
hi… i tried to update it through lf updater.. downloaded the new version.. step 3 updation failed.. message popped up saying connection is lost between phone and pc.. mobile shows LG only.. please help..

i get update 2.3.3 from LG service centre… but after one day i get prob. about my signal bar, its continuously on and off…. new update is just techinacly updated not so visually…. camera sign is same but others mobils 2.3 os cameras sign is diff… so guys dont accept more thing from 2.3.3 update with lg p500…. now i feel 2.2.2 was better after updated my mobile

I had a very small query. I have an LG Optimus One, running on Android 2.2. I am planning to upgrade it to the official 2.3 GingerBread release. I was confused would I lose all my applications i’ve installed on my phone? I have NDrive installed, which was provided as a default application by LG. If I upgrade my version, will my applications get erased and I have to reinstall each and every application individually again?
I am still reluctant to updating it fearing that I might lose my contacts, SMS and installed applications. I really don’t know if the update would remove all these or not. Will the GB 2.3 upgrade delete all my data like Contacts, SMS, Installed Apps and etc. Is there someway, I can avoid it or take a backup while upgrading?
The gingerbread update via KDZ with the file downloaded from media fire is pretty safe.
Once the file is downloaded u can get gingerbread up and running in 15 mins.
Better performace, more smooth animations, Quadrant score has doubled.
@nikhil- u will lose all ur contacts and apps installed but u will get the apps in 2.3 gingerbread. some one mentioned that there is no file manager so instal oi file manager the best available on the market……you can download ndrive from market as n drive sees the imei no. of the phones on which it came pre installed on……..so n drive 10 can be easily updated without any probs. please do not delete/format any on the sd card contents which came bunduled with the phone otherwise u may not be able to access some apps properly, specially the ndrive folder on the sd card and the dictionary folder too.
@shashank- u can use gingerbreak.apk to root ur phone. it is not available on the market…..it might not be safe…….however i am using it……..

Hey guys, uninstall current LG PC Suite. Then download a new copy from LG Site and reinstall. Then connect the phone and check for Update.. I finally have gingerbread on my phone. The Software version is Set to LG-P500-v20e.. I will put up screenshot if you want it. Please remember to backup your data. I lost all my contacts dont know how they did not sync with my Gmail account.
@Nikhil : NDrive will be erased after you have installed Gingerbread. What you will have to ensure is that you backup the folder of Ndrive from SD card. After you have installed Gingerbread, install NDrive 10 from the market.. Then start the application ensuring that earlier folder is there on SD .. This will re-register yourself with the India maps licence from LG.Ping me on twitter if you need help @anirudha0
I was able to upgrade using the mediafire link and kdz updater but it actually doesn’t looks like Indian update… Anyways will try for few days and see how it goes..

Actually that update hasn’t changed anything but the theme and removed dictionary and file manager and nothing else… Even the memory went below 20 mb. I’m actually wondering if its really gingerbread 🙁
Updated from LG service center. Update removes existing apps,sms,contacts etc. Hence backup or Sync should be carried before the update. Phone seems more slick/faster.
Hello friends i got gingerbread at lg service center, but one big change is my IMEI number has changed. update added two zeros after my original IMEI. Is this issue a potential WARANTY is concern?
@Prashanth : KDZ file is the Romanian ROM.. Thankfully it removes all the unnecessary softwares like the bollywood, dhingana and vaccination … This is much faster ROM..I have used the phone for 2 days with GPS and WI-Fi with no charge.. Battery life has changed amazing.. However when you connect it to PC Suit, it gives you notification for an update. Do not process this, else phone will move back to V10E. … Try using home replacement softwares like Go Launcher, you will love the experience.
@Deepak – Not sure if you are looking at the correct no. Device IMEI no is unique and no software upgrade can change it.
Those who updated…is there any real issue on contacts…i thought android will automatically sync the contacts with Gmail..but some says they lost the contacts..why is that?? I am planning to update it tomorrow…Should i rethink..
Guys I just updated my optimus one today and it seems working smoothly, About contact i just took backup of my old data to my sd card and imported them back and i see no loss in it. Other testing is still pending will do by tomorrow and update them as soon as i can 🙂 Cheers to ginger bread.
Those guys who cant see update in pc suit, I suggest to go to LG service center and update their phone from there. Even when i checked on pc suit it said ” your phone is up to date no more update available”. so lg service center is the solution for those ppl who get same msg as i got. enjoy your android experience with gingerbread 🙂
I tried but i can’t do it… it doesn’t show any updates… but i searched for internet and i downloaded the UK update and installed in my phone… now it is working fine… i love UK update because it don’t have any Crap apps pre installed…
@Android_Help – Actually those crappy applications (Bollywoodji etc…) are still on my phone even after the update… ROM does look better than the previous one… As you said let me try this for few days… Thanks anyway 🙂
where did u get the update done, in lg mobile support tool it shows version is latest v10E, but still it is android 2.2

I would suggest you to visit any of the nearest LG service center with the bill and they’ll have it updated.

I’ve been trying to update thru LGMobile Update app. It says “The Cell phone is the latest version already. So you don’t need to update.” I wonder how many of them have got the updates.

@ samarth Hi dude the waiting is really over…is it that burden to go to a lg service center…its absolutely free and time saving…it will take only about 15 – 20 minutes to update…as far as my knowledge the romanian rom will void the warranty of your phone…thats what the lg service center told me…so just go to them and have the taste of gingerbread..

@Samarth : The Warranty will not Void as there is no regional differentiation. Infact that ROM will give you better and faster performance. There are rare times these days when you actually need to visit Service Center, especially with brands like LG.
All for all those still in doubts to Do or not 2.. Just go ahead and do it.. You will love the experience
A few Points to remember –
1. Ensure phone is fully charged
2. Ensure LaptopDesktop is on power backup,. Should system go on standby or power failure in between update process, consider your phone gone
3. Uninstall the current PC Suit on your PC. Reinstall a new copy from the Web
4. Backup all the data on the phone
5. Perform factory Reset on Phone
6. Let the update begin..
Enjoy 2.3.3.. In the mean time I dive in to look for 2.3.4 ;p

@ Samarth : Yes, Romania ROM does have Think Office Free. Also it come preloaded with car dock and other LG tools like LG Apps and Update Notification.. Also you will not be done at any LG Service Center..
@aseeda : Yes, it will delete all apps and messages.. You can take backup of messages using “SMS Backup and Restore” .. Apps cannot be completely backed up.. Instead you can use Appbrain to backup the Application lists. Then install all in one go over the net.. Checkout appbrain and you will understand better what I mean..
