Samsung Galaxy S II will not be released on Verizon, says WSJ

Samsung’s flagship Android phone Galaxy S II, which is due its launch on August 29 in US, will not be coming to country biggest telecom carrier Verizon, reported WSJ today.

According to sources familiar with the plans, Samsung will be releasing GSII on T-Mobile, Sprint and AT&T, but Verizon won’t be offering the smartphone. The exact reason for this is still unknown, but a Verizon spokeswoman stated that they have an extensive portfolio that offers customers a great variety of devices, including the Samsung Droid Charge. I am not sure if that is the reason, or there is something else cooking. Anyways, we won’t read too much between the lines.

In other details about the launch, Galaxy S II will be sold for $199 with a two-year contract, beginning with a 4G version with Sprint.
