Sony Ericsson announces Xperia Ray, Active Android smartphones

Sony Ericsson today announced two new Android additions to its Xperia family at an event on the sidelines of CommunicAsia. Named as Xperia Ray, and Xperia Active, these smartphones will be available in select markets starting Q3 this year.

Resembling the original Xperia X10, Xperia Ray will feature Android 2.3.X, and 3.3 inch scratch resistant display.

  • Thickness: 9.4m
  • Weight: 100grams
  • 8.1-megapixel camera with HD recording
  • Front-facing camera
  • Scratch-resistant 3.3-inch screen (854 x 480 pixels) with Bravia Engine
  • Sony Ericsson Timescape UI
  • Available in four colors, black, gold, white and pink

On the other hand, Xperia Active features a sporty design, and comes with 3 inch display clubbed with Gingerbread.

  • Android 2.3.X
  • 1 GHz Processor
  • 5MP camera
  • 3-inch scratch-resistant display (320 x 480-pixel) [works fine with wet fingers]
  • Water-resistant (under 1m of water for up to 30 minutes) and dustproof
  • GPS, Bluetooth and barometer
  • Wrist strap, an arm case, and replaceable back covers
