Motorola to unlock bootloaders of its Android devices by 2011 end

Advertisements

Motorola has finally became sane and stated that it will be unlocking the bootloaders of its portfolio of Android devices by later 2011. Company will enable the similar mechanism as found in Motorola Xoom.

We completely understand the operator requirement for security to the end user, and as well, want to support the developer communities desire to use these products as a development platform. It is our intention to enable the unlockable/relockable bootloader currently found on Motorola XOOM across our portfolio of devices starting in late 2011, where carriers and operators will allow it.

First statement came from an unknown Motorola official, but Will Moss, Director of Communications – North Asia, Motorola Mobility confirmed the same.

I can confirm that the quote you have is accurate, but I can’t add anything at this time other than that further information will be released via MOTODEV (http://www.motorola.com/developer) as it becomes available.

Well, there is still a lot of time for unlocked bootloaders to come and it would b interest to see if Motorola indeed unlocks bootloaders of all the Android phones or just some devices.
