Gingerbread update rolling out for Droid X; Manual Install instructions

Reports are coming in that Verizon has started rolling out Gingerbread update for Motorola Droid X. Update is available over the air and Droid X users will get a notification to install on their smartphones once update is downloaded.

As per the users, who have received the update till now, Update release number is 4.5.588. If you running on a tweaked version of Android 2.2 on your Droid X, follow instructions here to get the Gingerbread OTA.

  • Rename the file to update.zip
  • Go to the stock recovery [not clockwork]
  • How – Power off, hold the home button then press and hold the power button until the Android Guy with the triangle shows up.
  • Hit the search key, use the volume buttons to scroll down to apply update from SD card and select it with the camera button, it will start the process, takes about 4 minutes, then reboots.
  • Now, you are good to go.
